Take a ride aboard an old-time trolley to two of Cary's historic cemeteries and let our guides walk you through some of Cary's early history. The first stop will be Hillcrest Cemetery where you will step off the trolley and walk along with guides as they point out grave sites and tell the stories of people who played a role in shaping Cary. You'll learn about people whose names are on the sign posts of the streets you travel, like Robert Harrison and Buck Jones. And you'll see grave sites and hear the stories of the founding family of Cary, doctors who cared for Cary citizens, stagecoach stop and hotel owners, veterans who fought in World Wars, and more.

The second stop will be the historic African American Cary First Christian Church Cemetery, founded around the time of the Civil War. You will step off the trolley here too and walk along with guides who will tell you the stories of Cary's early African American citizens. You'll learn about the first African American businessman in Cary, the founders of a school for African American children that went on to become Kingswood Elementary School, veterans who fought in World Wars, formerly enslaved persons, early church and community leaders, and more. Guides will also point out grave markers unique to African American cemeteries.
